Making Future Magic: iPad light painting on Vimeo
Im shooting a sequence next week - and have upped the ante on this concept: I'm outputting the iPad to my 22" on set LED monitor! I'll put the result up here mid Feb.
Meanwhile, enjoy watching this cool little concept in action.

Philip Blooms Christmas shootout
I've had a couple of my contemporaries ask me why I went with Panasonic's Lumix GH2 over the more tried and true (and older) Canon 5D mkII. Fair enough question - there's a lot of hype around the 5D's, and rightly so, as they pretty much started the whole idea of DSLRs being taken seriously as actual HD video cameras.
First up, let me state that I'm certainly not going to be ditching my PMWEX1's for DSLRs! Theres no way a 5D or even my new Driftwood hacked GH2 could reach a 'real' video camera on a pro shoot. It could, though, be a nice bit of complementary kit along side of my 'real' cameras. Super 35mm sensor, micro 4/3 lenses, shallow dDoF, and in the case of the GH2 exclusively, the up to 176mbps data rate (comparable compression rate to a RED Scarlett, albeit at AVHDC).
The GH2 doesn't have any of the moire issue that plague the canons (which pretty much stop them being used for broadcast), and with the ability for me to chuck my nikkor/Nikon lenses on, it'll fit in the same kit as my EX1, and give me a whole new look!
The proof, however, is in the pudding... I'm shooting next week with 2 x EX1s with my GH2 capturing the close 'beauty shots'. The end result will be on the showreel!
Meanwhile, have a look at is great light hearted techie look at a few cameras in the real world... Amongst them, the Canon 7D vs the Lumix GH2.

Camera update = fire sale!
As I now have three cameras, I'm selling one of my EX1's. Great camera... everything on my showreel was shot with it! If you want a real camera (not a dslr) and want a bargain... it's $3750.

Behind the scenes!
Here's something a bit different... I'm posting a video.. NOT shot by myself, but with me in it!
I shot stills for fashion label Butterfly Butterfly recently and my camera assistant, Ronaldo Lima was on video duties. He shot and cut this nice little 'behind the scenes' piece (all I did was a bit of colour grading).
After seeing the rushes, I got a haircut the next day. You'll know what I mean...

Editors needed!
After a hugely succesfull 2011 (both business-wise and creatively), I have several projects awaiting offline editing, including:
3 music videos
1 x teaser/trailer for a documentary
the 4 last episodes of a 'Build your own electric car' series.
I am happy to chat to junior editors, as I will 'online, grade and mix' these projects.
Contact me on kearon@makinnoize.com to get on the team!

On set: Butterfly Butterfly
Not my usual thing: a fashion stills shoot for Sydney fashion label Butterfly Butterfly.
Shot on Canon 7D (I subsequently went out and bought a Panasonix Lumix GH2) using my Nikon 1.4f 50mm, which usually sits in front of my PMW-EX1 for high end TVC shoots. I love having different cameras I can use my good glass on!

5 Music Videos in a day??? Pumpa hits the Ivy, Sydney.
This shoot for Sydney band 'Pumpa', had us shooting in an exclusive club - the Ivy, on George Street, Sydney. With 14 crew, and up to 70 cast and extras, the brief was to get material for five music videos (the next shoot was a week later on greenscreen). Thanks to all my crew who really dug deep to stay focussed while surrounded with free booze and beautiful models!
